4 Common Promotional Mistakes on Social Media & How to Avoid Them

Social media sites are considered by many to be effective for the promotion of business. But creating an account and posting twice per day does not suffice to make your project a profitable venue. If you are not sure of your skills and knowledge, get the Aitarget contacts for professional assistance. If you are in the UK, take a look at this Digital Marketing Agency Brighton to create a campaign that works.

    1. You Focus on Competitors Too Much

Try to remember how and when you decided to create a social media account for your business. Most likely, you have analyzed the competitors of your or related areas and wanted to create something similar.

However, trying to follow the same way as your competitors is not the way to success. After all, if a rival company has beautiful accounts on all social networks, does this mean that there are a lot of sales from social networks? No, it doesn’t mean that at all. Also, you have no information about whether the costs of maintaining social networks are paid off in the long run.

Now let’s talk about how your competitors can help you.

If you are a business owner or an employee, your goal is to increase the company’s profitability. That is, any marketing tool should bring you, first of all, the sale of goods or services. And only after this should you focus on increasing loyalty, creating a community, and meeting other goals you find relevant.

At the same time, competitors can still help you when planning a strategy for your presence in social networks. First, check out how your competitor sells products or services:

    • Do they sell directly in their accounts or lead to the site? You can check this by looking at the information on the profile. If the product description or profile contains links to the site, then, most likely, sales are carried out on the site.
    • If a competitor’s sales are made through the site, you can see which social network has the most conversions and whether there are any conversions at all.

    2. You Don’t Know Your Audience Well

Even though it seems obvious, it happens quite often that business owners cannot reply who their potential customers are, what they are looking for, and what their needs are. Besides, business owners choose a social network that they like, not their target audience.

So, invest as much time as you need to understand who you are working for so that your efforts on social media promotion are not wasted.

    3. Your USP Is Not Well Developed

This strategic blunder isn’t just about social media. Using any marketing tool, you need to broadcast the same USP and positioning.

    • What makes you different from your competitors?
    • What is special about you that they don’t have?
    • What are you doing better?

This is your uniqueness. Once you understand your unique selling proposition, you will be able to describe your company to the target audience.

    4. Social Networks Are Promoting Themselves

This may be true only if you’re making funky, viral content. But in other cases, this is not enough. You need your target audience to see your content. For this, use targeted, blogger, and account ads on your other offline and online platforms.

    • Targeted advertising

This is an advertisement that you can set up in the social media ad cabinet. Its advantage is that you can use the settings to select the target audience and show ads only to it. Targeted advertising will most often be displayed in a newsfeed or stories.

    • Advertising with bloggers

These are ads from influencers who have a similar audience of followers. Before choosing a blogger to cooperate with, follow this person for some time to make sure that the ads are relevant to the target audience you need to reach. Besides, make sure that this influencer advertises decent goods. In this way, you can be sure that the audience will trust this ad.

    • Offline promotion

This is a less obvious way to promote your social media accounts. But it is possible in the showroom (at an exhibition or event) to offer business cards with a QR code on social networks with a bonus for a subscription or review.

Avoid these mistakes and always learn new strategies and approaches. Social networks are developing and changing rapidly. Keep up with them!
