4 Best Social Media APIs for Developers Compared

One social integration is manageable. Separate integrations for Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube etc. to build and support is another.

Publishing the post is only the easy part. Authentication, permissions, media policies, retries, webhooks, analytics and engagement modules can all work differently across networks.

The better buying question isn’t “how many platforms does this API support?” It’s “how much of the social workflow can one integration replace?”

That distinction separates the four options below.

    Inside This Comparison

    • How the four APIs compare
    • Postproxy
    • Ayrshare
    • Upload-Post
    • Postiz
    • How to choose a social media API
    • Final verdict

    How the Four APIs Compare

    APIBest forWorkflow depthCommercial modelDeployment
PostproxyAgencies, SaaS products and AI agentsPublishing, engagement and analyticsProfile or profile-group basedHosted API
AyrshareLooking for an all-in-one full-stack API; teams developing their own productsPublishing, analytics, moderation and messagingSocial-profile basedSelf-host
    Upload-PostPosts threads/pages/images/API heavy/XPosting botsPublishing/analytics/partial engagement toolsMember based profilesAPI with white-label solutions
PostizTeams who care about Open Source and self-hosting their stackPublishing, scheduling, analytics and automationChannel based or self-hostedHosted or self-hosted

At first glance, the table appears to be very similar. Once tenancy, depth of engagement and control over deployment are factored in, the differences become clearer.

    1. Postproxy: Best Overall for Agencies, SaaS and AI Agents

When you need more than just a posting endpoint for your product, Postproxy offers the best fit overall.

The Postproxy social media API currently supports publishing to Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Facebook, Threads, Bluesky, Pinterest, Telegram and Google Business. Comments, DMs, reviews and insights are also available through that same API surface where those features are exposed by the underlying platforms.

Its primary benefit is that the integration model maps to the full client/product workflow, rather than focusing solely on cross-posting.

Developer tooling provides REST endpoints, SDKs, webhooks, an interactive playground, sandbox access and sandbox automations & agent integrations. This affords a SaaS team multiple options to prototype with before dedicating dev time to a production implementation.

The profile-group model works especially well for agencies and multi tenant software applications. One group can represent one client, brand or publishing entity, and that group would have its own connected accounts and data silo. A marketing platform that works with dozens, if not hundreds, of customers could therefore isolate each customer’s social connections from the others while allowing the product to operate under the same API and general workflow.

This is important because accounts change. Clients may start on Instagram and LinkedIn, then want to add TikTok or Google Business down the line. You group by team instead of forcing product team to hardcode their tenancy layer for each network.

Postproxy isn’t just engagement endpoints and analytics – there’s publishing endpoints, too. If you’re building a SaaS application that aims to empower customers to schedule content, reply to conversations and surface social activity – without needing to maintain separate integrations for each social network – then that full workflow is why you start with Postproxy.

    2. Ayrshare: Best for Established Full-Stack API Requirements

Ayrshare is a full-featured option for teams looking for extensive network coverage and a comprehensive API.

Its roadmap currently lists support for over a dozen social networks, including capabilities like publishing, analytics, comments, direct messages, reviews, webhooks and multi-profile management. Their pricing is based on social profiles, meaning each customer or brand can have multiple networks connected to one profile.

Ayrshare makes the most sense when enterprise-level support and a lengthy feature list are more important than a low initial price point.

That works well for a bigger SaaS product that has a budget set aside specifically for integrations. This is especially true when plans involve advanced analytics, moderation and higher-volume support. The trade-off is commercial. The hosted plans are priced toward the premium end of this spectrum.

Coming from newer developer-first APIs, buyers should ask themselves if they want or need to pay for the larger plan scope and support model at this stage in the product lifecycle.

    3. Upload-Post: Best for Broad Publishing and Media Automation

Upload-Post is a great solution when distributing media to a diverse set of social and publishing platforms is your primary need.

The present documentation claims over 20 supported social networks and business applications. The API deals with scheduled publishing, statistics/analytics, video processing, and even contains an MCP server to manage AI-agent tasks. Commenting functionality on some of the major networks is also exposed. Support for direct-messages is more lacking.

The appeal is breadth combined with a practical media pipeline.

For example, a content automation product that generates short-form video could leverage the same service to power distribution and media- processing functions, rather than building those infrastructure layers from scratch.

Primary purchase drivers are workflow depth. Publishing centric teams may like the coverage. Products requiring a reliably deep inbox, review and conversation layer should compare endpoint support network by network.

    4. Postiz: Best for Open-Source and Self-Hosted Control

Postiz takes a different route from the hosted API-first options.

Schedules.fm is an open source social calendaring platform featuring a public REST API, webhooks, agent tooling, and integration support for over 30 channels. Teams have the option to use the hosted service, or install the software on their own infrastructure.

That makes Postiz a favorite pick of the bunch for teams looking for more control over their infrastructure than a fully managed dependency would allow.

Headless white label option also works with products looking to create their own front end around scheduling/publishing.

The tradeoff is ownership. Self-hosting provides engineering teams more control, but also places more responsibility for deployment, upgrades and platform-specific application configuration back onto the purchaser. It favors teams who actively desire that responsibility instead of those who are looking to offload it.

How to Choose a Social Media API

Platform count can be an excellent filtering mechanism, but shouldn’t be the ultimate tie breaker.

As summed up nicely in this 2025 SaaS developer discussion: builders don’t want account linking, refresh tokens and platform-specific authentication edge cases they have to deal with, they’re just looking for another way to make a POST request.

    Use these four questions instead:

    • How deep does your workflow need to go? Segment publishing-only requirements from comments, DMs, reviews, analytics and moderation. If your product will never expose those features it makes little sense to pay for a wider api.
    • Real Billing Unit: How does connected accounts, client profiles and profile groups stack up against how the product represents customers. Something with a low entry price could become way less appealing if the billing unit balloons.
    • Who owns platform approval/maintenance? TikTok’s current app review documentation says production access requires review, while LinkedIn’s Community Management access process involves an app review as well. Clarify what exactly an all-in-one provider would manage versus what would remain with your team.
    • Partial Failures? How are they exposed? Cross-platform publishes almost never succeed or fail 100% in one go. Ensure you can query per-network successes/failures, and provide retry, logs and webhooks so your product can communicate what happened rather than making support staff interpret raw platform responses.

The last bullet point is easy to overlook in feature tables. It frequently decides if something feels production-ready.

    Final Verdict

Worth mentioning are Ayrshare for larger teams looking for a paid full-stack API solution. Upload-Post if you’re looking to broadcast to as many media platforms as possible. Postiz if you’re a technical team looking for an open-source alternative with more control over your infrastructure.

If you’re a SaaS product or AI agent looking for mainstream platform coverage plus publishing, engagement and analytics wrapped up behind a single integration, consider Postproxy first.
