Earlier this month, Paul Dano (Bunker) signed on to star opposite Callum Turner (Neuromancer) and Margaret Qualley (How to Make a Killing) in a remake of Possession. Now, Madeline Brewer, Emory Cohen, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez have joined the cast. Parker Finn (Smile) is directing and writing the remake of Andrzej Żuławski’s 1981 film.

The original film starred Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill playing Anna and Mark, a married couple living in West Berlin during the Cold War. When Anna (Adjani) asks for a divorce, her behavior starts to become more and more erratic. Mark (Neill) suspects she is being unfaithful, but what he eventually finds is much more disturbing.
Despite distribution issues in the UK after being classified as a video nasty, the film developed a strong cult following. It also garnered Adjani the prize for Best Actress at Cannes for her brilliantly unhinged performance.
Given its prestige among horror fans and how niche the market was for a film like this, the first time around. We have to ask: what audience is this remake for? We are all for the current trend of studios financing small(er)-budget, more niche original films. So why duplicate an existing IP with a small but diehard fanbase that probably won’t accept a remake in the first place?
Finn’s Possession is produced by Finn, Jonathan Fass for Bad Feeling, Roy Lee and Andrew Childs for Vertigo, and Robert Pattinson. Marc Bienstock is executive producing.
