What Is The Internet’s Latest Obsession

Every couple of years, the internet is obsessed over something new. Be it fashion or a celebrity scandal, or a specific community or niche, regardless, you would have seen it on your newsfeed. Now, there has been yet another shift, and the hottest trends seem to be tech and gaming; two things that have everyone completely enthralled. With as fast as the internet moves, this current digital shockwave emerged quietly and struck overnight. By morning, feeds were flooded, and social media content was packed full with the latest tech/gaming updates.

    Gaming’s Next Wave

The most notable new obsession is gaming, with how mainstream equipment, titles, and pop culture video game references have become. Mainly, this can be attributed to the shift away from traditional gaming and the emergence of more social/interactive play. These include:

    1. Hyper-Realistic AI NPCs

In the past, game studios focused on storytelling, graphics, and audio to provide gamers with an immersive experience. However, an extra, innovative element has been added that has significantly elevated gameplay, and that is through the use of AI technology. BioWare is a great example of this, with titles like Dragon Age and Mass Effect having life-like NPC dialogue wherein options change based on in-game decisions. Some new-to-the-market games have even populated the in-game world with AI-generated players to start bringing in new human players.

    1. Crypto Casinos & Web3 Gaming

Many operators have begun combining casino gaming with blockchain technology, bringing about a new era of decentralized gambling. The best crypto casino in the US offers provably fair games, speed, security, and anonymity by integrating these new, verifiable systems. Simply put, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin (and more) are all available to deposit, wager, and withdraw with at these platforms. Not only this, but players are not subjected to lengthy KYC checks and get fair wagering terms, showcasing just how innovative gaming has become.

    1. Cloud Streaming Platforms 2.0

Efforts have even been made to break down the hardware barrier of traditional gaming with near-zero latency streaming. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to purchase an Xbox or Steam Deck, so services like GeForce Now, Luna, and Google Stadia have taken initiative. Even with a low-end device, you can gain access to your favorite AAA titles and play them with no issue. In essence, these games are run on a remote server that handles all the computational work, while the user’s inputs are communicated across the net seamlessly.

The Tech That’s Breaking the Internet

Beyond gaming, there are quite a few general tech obsessions actively changing the digital landscape: AI and automation. Basically, it is powering the next wave of internet usage:

    1. Generative Video AI

Have you seen the viral TikTok video of the woman sleeping in bed while her cats get a bad case of the zoomies? If yes, have you seen the debate on whether it is AI or not? With just the use of text prompts, anyone can easily create hyper-realistic, short video clips, which have sparked much buzz across the net.

    1. Personalized LLM Assistants

AI is no longer just a go-to chatbot for random questions; it has become a full-blown digital assistant integrated into all of your devices. With a simple command, you can have it organize your emails, find a specific song, or even write code for you, showcasing the true evolution of large language models.

    1. AR/VR Social Spaces (The Real Meta)

The release of lightweight headsets (such as the XReal Air Series) has been a hot topic for many. Not only are these being used to record content without needing a bulky camera or phone, but also for people to meet in completely virtual social settings.

    Conclusion

Immersion, ownership, and social connection are driving this new trending wave. At its core, emerging tech has completely changed the way the internet interacts with…well, everything, so it is only natural for it to have become the latest obsession.
