“Terminator 6” First Footage a Hit at CinemaCon

A short bit of unfinished footage from Terminator 6: Dark Fate was shown at CinemaCon and the crowd was excited. Terminator 6 is a sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day and will ignore the other films (Rise of the Machines, Salvation, Genesys). It is produced by James Cameron and directed by Tim Miller (Deadpool). Arnold Schwarzenegger as an older T-800 and Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor are returning. They are joined by Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) as an enemy Terminator that has the ability to split itself in two; Mackenzie Davis as Grace, a soldier assassin; Natalia Reyes as Dani Ramos; and Diego Boneta as Miguel Ramos. Six still images of the cast were also released by Paramount.

The film footage displayed is about 5 min long and seems to be two action sequences and a montage of shots. Descriptions of the footage indicate that the first action scene is Mackenzie Davis’ arrival from the future on a bridge in Mexico City. It would seem her character may be some sort of Terminator or enhanced being as she falls from the bridge but doesn’t seem to take much damage. She is confronted by a group of cops and takes them all down easily. After appropriating some clothes from an unfortunate innocent bystander, she heads off. In the next scene shown, Mackenzie is with Natalia Reyes on a different bridge and they are being approached by two enemy Terminators. One is the sort of molten-metal type Terminator and one is the sort of skeleton-like Terminator. (Is this the new terminator split into two parts? We don’t know.) Suddenly, Linda Hamilton arrives in a truck and takes out the two Terminators with some really big guns. It ends with her saying “I’ll be back” and walking away. It is called by those who saw it a really bad-ass sequence.

Linda Hamilton’s return was important to director Miller, who is quoted as saying: “I’m sure every action filmmaker says that, but I did really try and focus on the relationships of these characters to one another. And the fact that Linda came back makes this particular Terminator fresh, this story could only continue with her in the role of Sarah Connor. That’s the most important thing for me,” and “Linda reinvented this character in a way that both honors who she was before and brings something new to the role.”

Hopefully they will release some of the footage online so the rest of us can see it. The scenes shown may be only a small taste of what the movie will be like, but they certainly bode well for the franchise and leave us wanting more.

Dark Fate is scheduled to be released on November 1, 2019.

I am still waiting for that blue police box to take me on a star trek to a galaxy far, far away. Until then I will have to content myself with fantasy and sci-fi adventures from books, movies, and TV shows.
