“Rocky Horror Picture Show” Celebrates 50th Anniversary with 4K!

The ultimate midnight movie experience that has defined what a cult classic is, is celebrating a huge milestone anniversary this year. Richard O’Brien‘s late night, double feature, picture show that inspired a generation to yell at the movie screen and dance in the isles turns the big 5-0, and is finally getting a 4K remaster. We’re speaking of course about the great and important film that has continually been playing in at least one theater somewhere in the world since 1975, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

As someone who performed with a shadow cast (a group of performers who literally act out the film in its entirety in costume below the screen) for many years, I am INCREDIBLY excited about this announcement.

This remaster includes one of the 2 cut songs “Superheroes” back at the end where it belongs. And we do know the Blu-ray bonus material disc does mention “deleted song + alternate takes,” so yes, you’ll also have “Once in Awhile.” The 4K process was overseen by Walt Disney Restoration, and yes, they’ve color corrected Brad’s bedroom scene.

“It’s a privilege to help preserve the legacy of a film that has meant so much to so many,” Restoration & Library Management director Kevin Schaeffer said. “Bringing ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ to life in 4K allows us to honor its bold, genre-defying spirit and ensure that audiences – both longtime fans and first-time viewers – can experience it as it was originally intended, with stunning picture and sound.”

So, break out the fishnets and toast, we’re gonna do the Time Warp (again) in 4K!

You can pre-order it on Amazon here. Release date is slated for October 7th, 2025.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
