Mother Turns off WiFi, Teenage Daughters Try to Kill Her

Well, you read the headline, you know what you’re getting into now. There have been horrendous stories about kids lashing out against their parents because of being punished. One of the most infamous cases of this involved a 17-year-old who shot his parents in 2007 because they took away his Xbox. We wish we could say this kind of behavior couldn’t happen twice, but three Texas sisters have proven us wrong with their attempted homicide of their mother.

On Sunday the 23rd of March, a trio of sisters aged 14, 15, and 16 did not react well to their 39-year-old mother turning off the Wi-Fi in the home. They retaliated by grabbing kitchen knives and trying to stab her. They chased her into the street and took their collective assault even further by throwing a brick at their mom. It struck her ankle and fortunately wasn’t hurt much beyond that. The teenagers also knocked their grandmother down as the older woman was trying to protect her daughter.

Gratefully, no one was seriously injured. Police arrested the sisters and booked them in the Harris County Juvenile Facility. They’re being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Who knows what kind of mindset you’d have to have to try and kill someone over a Wi-Fi signal. Maybe The Who weren’t correct, and it turns out the kids aren’t alright. Or maybe it’s more of a commentary about our reliance on phones and data. Surveys conducted over the last decade have increasingly found people preferring their cell phone to even physical intimacy.

We’re grateful that this incident didn’t end nearly as violently as it could’ve. Still, it’s sad to think that a family could be torn apart by something like this. No Wi-Fi connection is strong enough to be worth killing for.
