How To Check My Solar Panels Are Working

Having solar panels on a home or business is a great choice. While it takes an initial investment it will save you money, they have a long life span and it is good for the planet. The great thing too is that they usually need very little repair though when that happens you just need a reputable solar repair service to call in. To check they are working and to look at their energy production here are some tips.

Take a closer look at the solar meter

Every home or business with solar panels should have a monitoring system or solar meter. It helps you see real-time data for energy generation and is useful to track to see how it is now compared to in the past. You can check the meter to see if your solar panels are working and what kind of energy production is happening.

    Examine your energy bills

While you cannot get much information this way you can at least see if your panels are working. You can see if the electricity you are paying for is at the same high amount from before you had the panels. You would need to have an idea of what the usage would normally be like and keep in mind energy costs fluctuate. But if you had dropped in what you were paying a power company, and are now paying a lot more, that is something to investigate.

Check there are no obstructions or debris

Either you or your solar repair service can also investigate the panels and make sure nothing is blocking them and that there is no debris. Over time things like tree sap, dust, bird droppings, pollen, twigs and leaves and other debris can build up. That causes a block and lowers the energy being produced. If you are concerned about whether they are working, making sure the panels are not covered is an important step to take. The repair service would handle a professional cleaning if it is needed.

    Check the inverter

The inverter is what takes the direct current energy from your panels and changes it to alternating current energy. It makes it suitable and safe to be used in the business or home. There are times when it needs repair or malfunctions. They have lights that indicate they are working do if you take a look and the green light is lit, then the inverter is fine. If there are flashing lights, or it is red or yellow then you need your professional service.

Talk to your solar repair service

When in doubt it makes sense to call in the professionals to help. They can check your solar panels are working, and if there is anything having an impact on their energy production, they can solve the issue.

    Summary

There are several things you can do to check your solar panels. But unless it is something very simple impacting them you will need to rely on experts to help you with things like repair. Follow their guideline on maintenance so you can keep them working optimally.
