    4 Proven Ways to Microsoft Word Unsaved Document Recovery

    Avoid panicking if you shut down a Microsoft Word application without saving your work or losing unsaved files due to a program malfunction. Your location is correct. The best technique to microsoft word unsaved document recovery is in this post.

    Method 1: Use special software to recover unsaved Word files.

    Follow these methods to restore unsaved Word documents on Windows 10 or Windows 11 with WinfrGUI, a free data recovery tool:

    • Start WinfrGUI and pick the unsaved file’s disk address. Click “Scan”.
    • On the left are “Way” and “Type” tabs. Click “Print” then “Unsaved Files”. To open the folder, double-click or click “Open”. This freeware recovers unsaved Word, Excel, and PPT files.
    • Select the file and click “Preview” to preview it. For unsaved files, click “Recover”. Save the restored file elsewhere to avoid overwriting the original.

    Method 2: Recover unsaved Word documents using AutoRecover

    If your MS Word file disappears. Make sure automatic saving is enabled and follow these steps to recover the unsaved document from autosave.asd:

    • Click the “Files” tab at the upper left of the address in MS Word.
    • Select “Manage Documents” and select the “Recover Unsaved Docs” option from the drop-down menu.

    Check the dialog for missing files. If they have recently disappeared, they should appear in the list.

    Open the recovered Word document and click on the “Save as” button in the banner above.

    Special Tip – Enable AutoRecover:

    To avoid the risk of losing your Word document in an emergency, we recommend enabling automatic recovery. Here’s how:

    • Open Word and go to File > Options > Save
    • Select the box that says “Save automatic recovery data every [insert required time] minutes” and “Keep the last saved version if I turn off without entertainment.”
    • Click “OK” to save changes.

    Method 3: Recover unsaved Word documents from temporary files

    If you do not find the Word document in the AutoRecover file, you can try searching in the tmp folder. Follow these steps:

    1. Press Win+E to open the file scanner.
    2. Enter “. tmp” in the search bar and find the corresponding file.
    3. Select the tmp file from the search results and open it. Do not forget to save it immediately.

    Method 4: Recover unsaved Word documents through Document Recovery

    When Word fails or closes unexpectedly, it usually restores unsaved documents when reopened. You can find these documents in the left panel under “Document Recovery”.

    Recover Deleted Word Document:

    The process of recovering deleted Word documents differs from restoring unsaved documents. Here are two ways to try:

    Method 1: Find deleted Word documents in the recycling tank.

    If you have deleted your Word document without empty the recycling tank, you can recover it easily:

    • Open the Recycle Box and check if the deleted Word file is still there. Search for file types such as DOC, DOCX, DOT, etc.
    • Select a Word file and click “Restore” to recover deleted documents.

    Method 2: Restore permanently deleted Word documents with data recovery software.

    If you lose all of your Word files forever. The best thing to do is get data recovery tools. You can forever get back deleted files in Word, Excel, PPT, email, pictures, videos, and other formats with WinfrGUI. Do these things:

    • Choose where the Word file was saved first.
    • To begin scanning, click the “Scan” button.
    • When you’re done scanning, click “Document” on the left to find your Word file.
    • Click “Recover” after looking at the Word files you want to find. To avoid making copies of the original files, save the restored files in different places.
