What is the average cost of electrical services in Australia?

In Australia, the cost of electrical services depends on several factors including varying across the country, depending on the work and the experience the electrician has. While rates might start at $70 an hour they can go up to $130 and then even more if it is an emergency. How electricians charge can change as well, with some offering flat rates and others charging hourly. When you understand the differences and how it is broken down you can better prepare for a fair cost when you hire someone.

Paying an electrician a daily fee

If a job is going to be a longer one meaning a whole day then an electrician might have a daily fee they charge rather than an hourly one. The average daily fee for electrical services in Australia runs between $500 to $800. But that depends on the nature of the job and it does not include the cost of materials or if additional labour is needed.

Paying an electrician an hourly fee

The average charge for an hourly fee for an electrician is between $70 to $130. That covers the labor but then materials and parts will be added to that. Other factors that impact the final bill will include the electrician’s skill and experience, how difficult the job is, how long it takes and the location of the job.

    Paying for an emergency visit

When you need an electrician out of regular work hours, at night, the weekend or during holidays that is classed as wanting an emergency service. Emergency needs come with a much higher price than regular electrical services. Expect a starting rate of between $150 to $200 an hour but then there might be other costs to add to it such as a call-out charge, travel costs, and they might add the time it takes to travel as part of the rate.

Some tasks come with additional or special fees

There are a number of different tasks an electrician can perform for you so the nature of the work will impact the cost. Something like completing the wiring on a new home could cost somewhere between $1500 and $3000. Doing the same job but on an already built home is harder so costs more, between $3500 to $8000. When you are having work done in a home like renovating a room, that might include having the electrics redone. Just an inspection can cost between $200 to $500.

    Static Electrics

Whatever you need an electrician for, whether it is an inspection, a quick job or something more complex, you need to find someone with experience and skill. Ask them for a detailed estimate so you can compare your options. If you are in the Brisbane or Sunshine Coast area one great option is Static Electrics. They offer expertise in solar power, air conditioning and electrical services. They offer benefits and packages for loyal customers and can be there when you need them the most.
