“Monty Python and the Holy Grail” Returns To Theaters for 48 1/2th Anniversary

Forty-eight and a half years ago, a tale of magic, adventure, and kings was released. Filled to the brim with fantastical creatures like a killer rabbit, knights who say “Ni!,” and a sorcerer named…Tim? To say nothing of the in-depth commentaries concerning the carrying weight of swallows and coconuts.

The highly quotable “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” is returning to celebrate its 48 and 1/2th anniversary, with the hilarious tagline “back in cinemas for the first time since the last time.”

500 movie theaters will be participating in this cult favorite viewing. For those of us that know the film word-for-word, don’t worry about bothering patrons by quoting the movie out loud. There are two versions of the screenings. One standard, and one “quote along” that is equipped with subtitles for the most iconic quotes, so that patrons may shout them out with unfettered glee.

Two surviving Pythons, Michael Palin and Eric Idle, are both amazed and overjoyed by the lasting success of the film. Comparing its popularity to that of “Hard Day’s Night.” “It’s got this energy, this ‘Let’s just make it up, let’s just do it,'” Idle said in a press release. “It’s got a joie de vivre that’s very infectious, it’s very hard not to like.” Palin is equally impressed with the movie’s staying power. “In the declining years of his life, Elvis himself watched [the film].That just blew my mind!”

The return starts December 3rd, with “encore screenings” starting on December 6th. Tickets are on sale now.
