Director Confirms Popular “Hocus Pocus” Fan Theory

With Halloween fast-approaching, we all know that film favorites are on everyone’s lists. From “Halloween” to “Poltergeist,” everyone’s gonna be grabbing the pop and candy corn and couch cuddling for the best movies that October has to offer. Including the 90s favorite “Hocus Pocus,” which has had a popular fan theory confirmed by director Kenny Ortega. In a recent interview, Ortega confirmed the long suspected theory concerning Allison’s possible witchy tendencies.

“I did feel the whole time that there was a little witch there,” Ortega said. “I even thought there was potential for a spinoff that was about that, and I had conversations about that many years later at the Disney Channel.” While Allison doesn’t exhibit any form of witchiness in the movie, there seems to be a quality about her that is, in itself, alluring.

“I thought she was bewitching as a teenage girl. It was not typical for Max to fall head-over-heels for her. She had a mystical beauty, and she was bewitching.” says Ortega. And it’s true that Max had never looked once at her before their interaction in class. And while that could be attributed to the classic 90s romance trope, something could also be said of Allison having a supernatural magnetism.

It would have been fascinating to see a spin-off series regarding Allison that would have her exploring her developing powers. But given that “Sabrina: The Teenage Witch” came out three years later, it’s possible ABC was already pre-developing the series when “Hocus Pocus” came out. Which would have made a “Hocus Pocus” spin-off series of a young, developing witch a little too same-y.

You can catch both the original and followup films on Disney+ now.
