Nicolas Cage-Starring “Dream Scenario” Gets Unhinged Trailer

Nicolas Cage is enjoying a golden age. The actor and his unique style has seen him embodying roles in a number of independent and big time films. On the tail end of wrapping up production for “The Retirement Plan,” we have yet another trailer for an upcoming project.

Directed by Kristoffer Borgli, this cerebral comedy from A24 seems to have a couple messages of its own. “Dream Scenario” takes the concept of shared dreaming and skews it a little bit. What if the same person started showed up in everyone else’s dreams?

A24 is good enough with their advertising that we’re not altogether sure where the film itself will go. Only that Cage’s character, Paul Matthews begins showing up in the dreams everyone in his small town is having. What becomes a strange phenomena begins to make Paul famous. Being a quiet and reserved college professor, it’s not only a new experience, but it’s garnering him more attention that he ever dreamed. But what happens when his dream appearances start to become more than cameos? What happens if someone’s nightmare features Paul? And that seems to be another branch of the movie’s plot. What happens when the fame and curiosity turns hostile? What we don’t know is whether Paul is even in control of it. The plot, as we can gather from the trailer, seems to want to play with the ideas of internet fame, para-social relationships, and how quickly it can go wrong.

There’s also something to be said of Cage’s performance. Which seems like a down-to-Earth, shy persona for Paul, but he seems to get the chance to dish out the weird that we love Cage for when the nightmares happen. A24 has been releasing some banger’s lately, and this one seems like it will be just as good.

It’ll hit theaters November 10th. Check out the trailer below:
