Ryan Murphy, director/writer/showrunner/producer, is setting up a financial assistance fund for his past and present cast and crew. This is a lifeline intended to help those he was worked with, who have been impacted by the dual Hollywood strikes. The Ryan Murphy Productions Assistance Fund was announced in an Instagram post on Friday, September 8th, 2023. Murphy has committed $500,000 to the fund.
Murphy’s fund stands “ready to support the exceptional cast and committed crews of Ryan Murphy Productions.” Those in need of assistance are directed to a website in the Instagram post, where they can file for aid. Murphy’s status as a prolific Hollywood creator in television and film, could see this initiative supporting thousands.
“Every story we’ve woven, each character brought to life and every set constructed carry with them an inimitable thread of collaboration. As my colleagues face the challenges brought forth by the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the imperative to support each other is even more pronounced,” The post reads.
This is not the first time Murphy has stet up and offered support to Hollywood professionals in times of need. When the COVID-19 pandemic was beginning, Murphy matched a $100,000 donation by Netflix to support the Motion Picture & Television fund. He also assisted with an auction to help those out of work during the pandemic. Murphy separately once donated $10 million to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
Some of the many Ryan Murphy Productions titles of which cast and crew are eligible for assistance include: “Nip/Tuck,” “Glee,” American Horror Story,” and more.
Murphy is still the executive producer for the upcoming “American Horror Story: Delicate,” set to air on September 20th, 2023.
