Writer/actor G.O. Parsons is probably best known for his script for the 2021 film “Willy’s Wonderland.” Which starred a silent Nic Cage battling killer animatronics in a sketchy pizza shop. Now Parsons is working on yet another fantastical project, the three-part robot dinosuar comic book  “Beast of Bower Boulevard.”

Like many kids, growing up Parsons wondered what it’d be like if something totally unexpected happened in his secluded hometown of Lake Tahoe, California. “My brain immediately went to robot dinosaur,” Parsons told The Hollywood Reporter. Now that a successful Kickstarter campaign has helped fund the project, he is bringing those daydreams into reality.

“Beast of Bower Boulevard,” is set in a secluded ski town, and kicks off when a sheriff’s deputy and his family are dispatched to investigate after the town goes quiet. When they arrive they discover that the town is under siege by a robot dinosaur created by the military.

The comic is done in conjunction with artist Carlos Rod, who created a very ‘70s and ‘80s-inspired look. “We wanted it to kind of look like if you found this thing, 40 years ago,” said Parsons. [By the look of these covers, mission accopmlished.]

He originally penned the idea as a screenplay but changed directions after working with  American Mythology on the “Willy’s Wonderland” books. For budgetary reasons it’s also significantly cheaper to have Rod drawing a rampaging robot dinosaur than it is to film it. “The same cost of having a character talk to another character on the page is the same exact cost of having a dinosaur rampage through a ski resort,” Parsons explained.

Not to mention that would be a hard sell to most studios even without the current strikes. While pen and ink are much more adapted to handle outlandish chaos.

“Beast of Bower Boulevard” is now available through American Mythology.
