We all know social media is hit or miss for accurate news. Misinformation spreads like a wildfire. And most of the time, no one can put it out before it’s infected users like a zombie virus. No one really knows what’s real. Unless, of course, you’re making a post for clicks. A twitter user did some trolling for exactly this reason.
A now viral video was posted to the social media platform, proclaiming a station of the LA Metro was flooding in the wake of what’s being deemed a “Hurriquake” (Hurricane Hilary, and a 5.1 earthquake both hit Southern California on August 20th). But, it was actually. just footage from the Universal Studios tour ride.
Metro LA’s Twitter account responded dryly to the video, which gave us a good chuckle.
The responses of both the original post and Metro are pretty hilarious.
We figure Metro’s response was to be the straight man for the joke. Having to rain on the parade just in case someone truly believed this was real footage. Despite seeing the steel pole and the open-air structure of the tram, some people really thought it was real. The equivalent of someone being nudged in the ribs while shaking their head with disappointment at the horrible joke just made.
The original poster was trolling, and not even that hard, really. Just gaining some attention either one way or the other with folks calling them out or playing along. Maybe the next time an ape escapes their enclosure at a zoo, they’ll post the ride’s “King Kong” segment.
