The long-awaited film adaptation of popular horror video game “Five Nights at Freddy’s” has been rated PG-13 by the MPA. While the that rating has a bit of a stigma in the horror genre- considering the game seemed to resonate with a lot of younger players- this rating does make some sense.

Her smile says it all. “Five Nights at Freddy’s” Blumhouse / Universal

“Five Nights at Freddy’s” has been slapped with the PG-13 due to “Strong violent content, bloody images and language.”  So basically we’ll get some bloodshed and swearing, but not so much that teens can’t see it.

The film will follow a troubled security guard who begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy to make it through. Since the animatronic mascots seem to be coming to life on their own.

“Five Nights at Freddy’s” Blumhouse / Universal

Josh Hutcherson (“The Hunger Games”), Matthew Lillard (“Scooby Doo”), Elizabeth Lail (“You, Mack & Rita”), Kat Conner Sterling (“9-1-1”), Piper Rubio (“Unstable”), and Mary Stuart Masterson (“Blindspot”) star.

Emma Tammi (“Blood Moon”) directs from a script co-written by her, Seth Cuddeback (“Kelp”), and the game’s creator, Scott Cawthon. The legendary Jim Henson’s Creature Shop will be handling the killer animatronics.

Blumhouse is producing in association with Striker Entertainment and Universal Pictures. Cawthon, Jason Blum, Russell Binder, and Marc Mostman serve as producers.

“Five Nights at Freddy’s” will hit theaters October 27th, 2023. We’ll keep you posted on updates about the project as they become available. You can check out the trailer below:
