Could David Pogue’s 2022 Oceangate Report Helped Prevent Missing Sub?

Just a few days ago, Oceangate Expeditions’ sub Titan went missing, carrying four passengers down to view the RMS Titanic. All contact with the submarine has been lost. And social media is definitely abuzz with differing opinions on the missing craft and its passengers.

But as it turns out, there is someone who could have potentially provided some intel for preventing this current disaster. CBS’s David Pogue filmed a piece on Oceangate Expeditions in 2022, and mentioned some of the issues that could possibly be causing the current situation.

Y’all please watch this. It’s a CBS story that aired a while back about that submarine that is now missing. The creators of that missing submarine are DEEPLY unserious. pic.twitter.com/B6JriITyZj

Segments of Pogue’s 2022 piece have found their way onto Twitter, wherein his trepidation is obvious. Signing a waiver that states Titan is an “experimental submersible vessel that has not been approved or certified by any regulatory body and could result in physical injury, disability, emotional trauma or death.” That’s worrying enough to begin with. But the video continues with Pogue taking a tour of the sub itself.

Pogue comments on the state of the sub. Describing it as having “some elements of MacGyvery jerry-rigged-ness.” in an interview with chief executive Stockton Rush (one of the missing passengers currently). But apparently, Pogue’s trip in the submersible also went wayward. Pogue posted on Twitter about the losing of the sub. Stating that the craft got lost for roughly five hours before returning to the surface. Apparently, thesubmarine doesn’t have any manner of emergency locator to help find it in such a situation. Apparently it was discussed, but apparently never implemented as the craft has once again been lost to the depths.

It’s not the best look for CBS for a reporter to have had prior knowledge of the dangers of such a craft. And yet stayed mute on the subject until now. As of now, the craft still hasn’t been found.
