- The blueprints for the wheel were created by mistake
Did you know, that the iconic wheel’s blueprints were the result of an experiment gone wrong? That’s right, in 1655, French mathematician, physicist and gambler, Blaise Pascal, tried to invent the world’s first perpetual motion machine.
Of course, his invention didn’t go to plan, but not all was lost as the blueprints for the perpetual motion machine turned into the blueprints for the first-ever Roulette wheel.
It was these blueprints that changed the gaming world forever.
- Two wheel variants
Did you know, there are two types of Roulette wheels to be found on casino floors, especially the online lobby floors? These are known as the American and European wheels.
The main two differences between the wheels are the number of pockets and the house edge.
The American wheel features 38 pocketed compartments, numbers 1 – 36, plus a single zero (0) and double zero (00) pocket. Whereas the European wheel features 37 pocketed compartments with numbers 1 – 36, plus the single zero pocket (0). With a reduced number of pockets, the European wheel plays with a lower house edge than the American wheel.
- No food or drink
Did you know, it’s common etiquette as well as a general rule, that no food or drink is to be brought to or consumed at the Roulette table, at any point during your visit to a casino establishment? That’s right, if you’re seen approaching a table with a glass or plate in your hand, you’ll be asked to sit somewhere else until you have consumed your drink or food.
- Even money bets don’t carry a 50/50 chance of winning
Did you know, despite even money bets helping players to cover most of the pocketed compartments on the wheel, a win isn’t a case of a 50/50 chance? This is due to the zero(s) pockets on the wheel too. This pocket type doesn’t count towards any even money bet, including the odd and even bet types.
Therefore, there is a just under 50% chance of an even money bet landing your way.
