Dodgers WILL Honor Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence at Pride Night

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are a nation-wide group of drag queen nuns, best known for their nonprofit fundraising and volunteer work for the LGBTQ+ community. The Sisters were to be recognized officially for their work at Dodger’s Stadium for Dodger’s Pride Night, June 16th. That is, until they were disinvited by the Dodgers, due to Catholic groups claiming the Sisters are a “mockery” of their religion.

This slight had the The Los Angeles LGBT center and LA Pride pull out of the Dodger’s celebration as well. The Mayor of Anaheim extended an invitation for the Sister’s to attend Angel’s Stadium’s own Pride Night, commenting on the missed opportunity for inclusivity.

🏳️‍🌈 I’m inviting the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to join me for @Angels Pride Night at Anaheim Stadium on June 7. Pride should be inclusive and like many, I was disappointed in the Dodgers decision. #CityofKindness #Anaheim

Luckily, demonstrating their message of love and understanding, the Sister’s LA Abbess Sister Dominia and board member Bearonce Knows, met with Dodger’s President and CEO Stan Kasten, as well as various members of the LGBTQ community, West Hollywood, and California legislatures. All convened to discuss the decision to strike them from the roster.

The Dodgers have now issued a heartfelt apology, and have re-invited the Sisters to attend Pride Night to accept their award.

The Sisters also posted their own response, forgiving Dodger Stadium for perhaps making a decision in too much haste. “We believe the apology is sincere because the Dodgers have worked for 10 years with our community and as well they have asked us to continue an ongoing relationship with them…This affair has been an opportunity for learning with a silver lining. Our group has been strengthened, protected, and uplifted to a position where we may now offer our message of hope and joy to far more people than before.”

There’s no better example of the mission to spread love and acceptance by these colorful, supportive Sisters.
