    Basic Terms You Need to Know Before Playing Poker

    If you are a beginner, you must learn about various basic terms in poker. You can have a glance at some of the common and most used terms for poker and betting

    Basic Terms of Poker

    1. Action: During a raise, initial bet, or a hand, it is the turn of a player to move. It indicates a game where a lot of raising and betting takes place.
    2. Ante: A small bet that has to be made by each player before the start of each hand.
    3. Blind: Forced bets placed by two players sitting to the left of the dealer. The player sitting on the left of the dealer posts the small blind, and the next player posts the big blind.
    4. Bubble: The winner of the game who receives no prize.
    5. Hand: Cards held by poker players in a game.
    6. Pot: Total amount of money that is in play or the amount a winner may get.
    7. Tournament: Poker event which involves one or more tables of players. Each commences with a fixed number of tournament chips. 

    Basic Terms in Betting

    1. Call: To match the amount of the bet or raise.
    2. Check: To stay in the game without betting anything. However, it can be done only if no bets have been made in the current round.
    3. Raise: To increase the amount of money in the previous round or bet.
    4. Fold: To give up the round and exit the game.
    5. Check-raise: The player waits to place the first bet before raising the stake.
    6. All-in: To bet all of your remaining chips on a hand.
    7. Bluff: Putting money down to get others to fold.
