Yes, “Teletubbies” Boots are Very Real (and Very Confusing)

These boots are made for gawking, and that’s just what they’ll do. Why the hell did someone turn a Teletubbie into a shoe?!

High-end designer Christian Cowan, has made a bizarre pair of “Teletubbies” boots that have taken the internet by storm. The boots are knee-high style, in bright neon green, with the beloved character Dipsy popping out of the knee. And we mean full-on popping out, arms, head, and antenati are all jutting out as if they are asking for a big hug.

The footwear is part of a larger collection inspired by the 1997 children’s show. So if you can’t shell out £2,096 for the boots Cowan is also selling graphic tees for $195, graphic hoodies for $350, denim jackets for $595, or wide-leg jeans for $495. The other articles of clothing also feature the other Teletubbies Laa-Laa, Po, and Tinky-Winky.

The British designer, currently based in New York, announced the new like via Instagram. “We treated Dipsy, Laa-Laa, Po, and Tinky-Winky like the legends they are, shot in an Avdeon-esque style, the garments tell the story of our four legendary characters, who have come to step on everyone’s necks and have autographed these pieces for their adoring fans.”

Most of the reaction to the like seems to be a mixture of bewilderment and unrelenting support. Some are of the opinion that this line is somehow sexualizing the children’s show. Others are loving the blast of campy nostalgia. You can check out the rest of Cowan’s line here.

“Teletubbies” relaunched on Netflix earlier this year. So the timing of this line couldn’t be better. Check out a trailer for the new show below:
