“Frasier” Revival in Boston Means “Cheers” Reunion Possible

The “Frasier” revival is well on its way. Though we will miss some stars not returning, there are a number of familiar faces that have the potential to appear. After all, this revival doesn’t take place in Frasier Crane’s (Kelsey Grammar) long-time home of Seattle. Frasier is returning to Boston, where he was once a regular of a local drinking establishment. Little bit of an odd move considering that Frasier’s move to Seattle was to differentiate his spin-off series from “Cheers” as much as possible.

The first two episodes of the revival are being directed by “Cheers” co-creator James Burrows. Almost every character we’ve seen in “Frasier” showed up on “Cheers” first. So there’s very much the potential for Frasier’s old home-town friends to appear. Perhaps the character pool is greater for a Boston-based show. Especially given “Cheers,” “Frasier, ” and “Wings” are all part of the same universe. But it’s still an odd move considering Frasier’s move to Seattle was to differentiate his spin-off series from “Cheers” as much as possible.

    Dr. Crane to Prof. Crane?

Exactly what this new series will cover has been kept fairly under wraps. What we can glean from casting is that Frasier might have taken up a teaching position at a college. With the addition of Boston-based characters, we may see more of Frasier’s ex-wife Lilith, played by Bebe Neuwirth. It also doesn’t seem out of the question for Ted Danson‘s Sam Malone to drop in on our dear Dr. Crane, like he did in “Frasier.” (So did Woody Harrelson, Shelley Long, and John Ratzenberger.)

This revival series will also feature Frasier’s son Freddy, played by Jack Cutmore-Scott. Possibly as a more modern voice of reason to Frasier’s haughty, high-cultured ways while further exploring their relationship as father and son. While he navigates college, of course.

Among the cast are also Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan, an old college friend of Frasier’s; Toks Olagundoye as Alan’s colleague in the Psychology Department of the University; Anders Keith as Niles and Daphne’s son David, and Jess Salguerio as Freddy’s roommate, Eve.
