Mark Manson’s bestselling self-help book, “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a #@%!,” is being adapted into a movie. Universal Pictures has given us the first trailer for this innovative flick. Manson also stars, to outline “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a #@%!” in a way only he can.

The trailer with the line “You’re going to die one day. I just wanted to remind you.” Manson then goes on to explain why it’s “bullshit” to believe that self-esteem is about being special, unique, and extraordinary. The author promises to cut “through the crap to offer his not-giving-a-#@%! philosophy: a dose of raw, refreshing honesty that shows us how to live more contented, grounded lives.”

While he wishes this could all be broken down into six easy steps, “But to really get into this stuff, you’ve got to feel it.” Manson with the help of Disappointment Panda, a character whose superpower is telling people the harsh truths, will use a series of historical, statistical, and personal anecdotes to illustrate his unique brand of self-help. Showing that happiness is less about constant positivity than it is about shifting your expectations and perceptions.

The author spends about half of the trailer in a pool surrounded by synchronized swimmers. While the intent is to be absurd. It also seems like an homage to Chris Holmes’ infamous poolside interview in “The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years.” Which is also completely fitting.

“The Subtle Art of Not Giving a #@%!” is directed by Nathan Price and produced by Matthew Metcalfe. It promises to be a cinematic documentary, designed to “help us become less awful people.” With 15 million copies sold since it was published in 2017, it’s clear Mason’s approach has really struck a chord.
