“Avatar: The Last Airbender” Animated Film Gets a Release Date

Since its series finale in 2008, fans have begged for “Avatar: The Last Airbender” to get a full-length animated film. The original series is dearly loved by millions of fans and continues to be popular fourteen years later. While “Legend of Korra” is also a favorite, fans are more divisive about its success. After many starts and stops, we finally have a release date for Avatar Studios’ first animated feature that’ll continue the story of Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Zuko.

And it won’t stop there. There’s not one film, but three on the docket for production. This has been a long time coming, and fans have been waiting patiently ever since the announcement of Avatar Studios in 2021. The studio was created for the express purpose of expanding both Aang and Korra’s universes as animated series’ or features. So it’s about time!

Lauren Montgomery will be directing this upcoming film, with Michael Dimartino, Bryan Konietzko, and Eric Coleman producing. So we can’t help but feel the film is in good hands. [Editor’s note: This animated film from Paramount Pictures and Avatar Studios, is different than Netflix’s upcoming live-action “Avatar” series.]

While this will be a first for Aang (and possibly Korra), a certain pineapple-dwelling sponge is getting his fourth film. Spongebob will be getting another film to further his adventures in Bikini Bottom. “The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run” is the most recent film, released last year. Each film has had a unique charm in that the art direction is never the same, refreshing the films with styles distinct from one another. The newest Spongebob film is set to hit theaters May 23rd, 2025.

The first film, while untitled, will release October 10th, 2025. We’ll let you know what else we hear about this and other news.
