ITS ALIVE- Corey Taylor Purchases Famous Monsters Brand

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor, longtime horror fan, has purchased the Famous Monsters brand with exciting plans to revive the popular magazine. That’s not all, with the revival of the iconic zine comes plans for festivals and merchandise. Taylor has teamed up with his business partner Eben McGarr, owner of Mad Monster. The announcement came during Son of Monsterpalooza convention in Burbank, CA.

Taylor’s been collecting issues of Famous Monsters ever since he was a kid. The magazine itself lived through various evolutions and transformations to fit the times. Created in 1958, it thrilled teens and young people, keeping them steeped in horror and science fiction culture. Particularly when films of the like began to disappear from the popular sphere.

Taylor gave Rolling Stone an extensive interview of this spooky business venture. He outlines the bigger plans he has for the brand. Conventions, films, and even a horror themed cruise at which the heavy metal singer will perform. Equally exciting is plans to digitize every issue of the horror zine. “Our job is to build a foundation to bring Famous Monsters into the modern age, while also honoring the legacy that came before.”

Taylor and McGarr have also obtained the rights to Captain Company, the store Famous Monsters used for selling masks and merch. It’s lovely to see fans of horror continuing to support and revive it, led by a passion for the genre and fueled by nostalgia. Like Frankenstein’s monster, Taylor’s reviving an old favorite. It’s alive!
