“Top Gun: Maverick” Wins Box Office Dogfight

For the Labor Day weekend, Sony decided to drop an extended version of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” back into theaters for Spidey fans. It has taken audiences away from the surprisingly huge performance of “Top Gun: Maverick” which has grossed over a billion dollars and is going to hit the top five highest grossing domestic film releases of all-time. Although, the web-slingers return has reclaimed the weekend box office since then by adding 6$ million dollars in reported revenue to its total earnings with more to come. It was making more money than ”Top Gun: Maverick.”

The Tom Cruise film made an additional $7.9 million over Labor Day, with figures still coming in as movies are still playing on the west coast. There’s been a massive heat-wave so the extra revenue could be related to folks trying to cool off.

“Top Gun: Maverick” has consistently done well in theaters with Cruise reprising his role from the original. It’s been one of those films that makes you feel hyped when you leave the theater. Though there has been some trouble concerning rights for the story, many fans hope that this film will pave the way for another.

The re-released version of “Spider-man: No Way Home” includes 11 minutes of never-before-seen footage to accompany it. This version has been titled, “The More Fun Stuff Version.” So, Spider-man fans can expect a ton of extras when dropping into the theater this weekend. Some of the reported surprises will be a special appearance from Tom Holland’s brother Harry Holland, and more of the Peter Parker segments that didn’t make the original cut of the film.

This Spider-man film is notable for many reasons in hindsight. It was the first film to capture live-action actors who have played the character more than once in other generations of cinema in one movie. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield both returned to jump through dimensions in helping out Tom Holland’s Spider-man during confrontations with past, present and future villains. Those villains stuck to the same casting choices of those respective universes such as Alfred Molina playing the sinister Doc Ock and Willam Defoe in the role of the mad Green Goblin for the Tobey Spider-man world. On the flip side, you had Jamie Foxx returning to the electrified but misunderstood character Electro. So there is more than enough reason to go watch a second or even first outing of this film in the theaters once again.

You can watch both of these movies in theaters now!

“Spider->an: No Way Home” is available on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD. The Blu-ray features the most content out of them with additional deleted scenes, featurettes, and panels with the cast in discussion.
