5 Seasons ‘Planned Out’ for “Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power”

Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is due later this year. Empire Magazine has been teasing fans this last week with new images and characters. This morning included a Harfoot (predecessors of Hobbits), and an iconic tower.

The Harfoots are pretty much exactly like what we know to be Hobbits- short, feet with hair, obsessed with food- but they haven’t yet found the Shire, or called it home.

“We’re a nomadic tribe, moving with the weather and the fertility of the crops. We have big caravans on wooden wheels and we’re very good at hiding things, because humans are much bigger than us and bring trouble,” actor Lenny Henry said of his character, Sadoc Burrows. “We’re the traditional Tolkien little guy. Traditionally, the little people in this world provide comedy but also get to be incredibly brave. You’re going to see us run the full gamut of emotions and actions in this adventure.”

And sure, it’s good to a have a plan, but 5 seasons?!

“The rights that Amazon bought were for a 50-hour show. They knew from the beginning that was the size of the canvas – this was a big story with a clear beginning, middle and end. There are things in the first season that don’t pay off until Season 5,” showrunner JD Payne said. “We even know what our final shot of the last episode is going to be.”

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is set to hit Amazon Prime Video on September 2nd, 2022. We’re hoping for another trailer soon.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
