Gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams of Georgia has joined “Star Trek!” The outspoken politician at the forefront of protecting voter’s rights in the southern state appeared on the season 4 finale of “Star Trek: Discovery.” The Paramount+ series featured Abrams as the President of United Earth.

“We were fanning out the whole time, just trying to cover it up, trying to be cool,” series star Sonequa Martin-Green told Variety. “We adopted her so fast. We were like, ‘You’re “Star Trek” family forever now.’ She was just so comfortable with what she was doing, and knew exactly how to be and where to go and everything. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised.”

“As we started to look ahead to the finale, we realized we are going to need a face for this moment, someone to represent Earth,” EP Michelle Paradise, who also wrote the episode, said. “When the time came to start talking about the president of Earth, it seemed like, ‘Well, who better to represent that than her?'”

The one thing Abrams wanted to be involved with the episode? To not have season 4 spoiled for her. “She wanted to be able to just watch it and enjoy when the show finally came out,” Paradise said. “So, yeah, we avoided all the spoilers.”

Seasons 1-4 of “Star Trek: Discovery” are available to stream on Paramount+ now.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
