Cyberpunk 2077’s Long Awaited Next-Gen Update is Live

It’s been some rocky years for CDProjekt RED’s action RPG “Cyberpunk 2077.” In November 2020, the eagerly anticipated game from the makers of “The Witcher” series had a catastrophic release. Bugs, flaws, all manner of gremlins had the game virtually unplayable on several systems, and at least partially broken on the rest. Things were so bad that the game was removed from retail on the Playstation Network for almost a full year.

    Johnny Silverhand, “Cyberpunk 2077”

It’s not to say that “Cyberpunk 2077” wasn’t a great game, because buried under the torrent of bugs there was an awesome adventure to be had in Night City. A brilliant performance by Keanu Reeves as the enigmatic rocker turned anti-capitalist terrorist Johnny Silverhand led you through a deeply dystopic future Los Angeles, and it was possible to get wonderfully lost there. At least until your car clipped through a road into unrendered space and your console crashed.

Developers CDProjekt RED had their work cut out for them bug fixing, chasing the many problems across so many systems, and repaving the slow road back to a solid and enjoyable gaming experience. Today, the biggest jump since the original release has arrived with a release of “Cyberpunk 2077” Patch 1.5. Also, a massive next gen update, bringing the game into the new generation of gaming consoles.

    Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.5

There’s a ton of tweaks, updates and fixes in the patch, including all manner of bugs far too numerous to name individually (seriously, it’s hundreds). Everything from enemy AI to hit reactions, combat balance, and hacking has been reconfigured and retooled for a better experience.

As well as the bloody bugs, a lot of new content has also been added, such as a complete rework of the driving mechanics, allowing you to pull burnouts, pop brake stands and rip donuts with your futuristic vehicles. Multiple new quests and interactions have also been added with the ‘fixer’ characters for each borough of night city, and a rework of the romance subplots give the player more interactions, messages and moments, with the lovely Panam, Kerry, Judy, or River, whoever you chose (It was Panam wasn’t it?). The full list of updates with patch 1.5 can be found here.

If you’re one of the many who has been patiently waiting to play “Cyberpunk 2077” on a shiny new next gen system, now’s the time.

The PS5 and Xbox One X system versions are live and available now. If you already purchased the game on PS4 or Xbox One, the update is free, and can be accessed by heading to the store page for your purchased version. If you’re a physical media dinosaur like me, just pop in the installation disc for the game, and you’ll see a prompt to install the next gen update version.

Well back to Night City, chooms.

Patch 1.5 is coming soon to PC, Stadia, and consoles!

It brings various improvements to the game, numerous quest and gameplay fixes, as well as a number of free DLCs. On top of that, it contains the next-gen update PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X!https://t.co/qnNgifGJZy pic.twitter.com/swLOUNTIcD
