Poor House Bistro Relocated Mardi Gras-Style After Google Buys Land

When you run a popular restaurant and happen to have the land bought from under you, what are your options? Fight it? Close down? Or relocate to a place where you can truly be appreciated? San Jose, CA beloved Cajun restaurant Poor House Bistro chose the latter. Rather than shutter their business, they threw a party while the restaurant was driven down to its new location.

A place known for good food and gorgeous décor, the Poor House Bistro is located inside a historic Victorian building. Tech giant Google reportedly purchased the land, prompting a move. They started their journey just a mile away from the original location.

Adding to the fun was a full second line brass band, decorations for Mardi Gras, Italian flags, and a group of people marching behind it. The building was moved down Montgomery Street, past the SAP Center, and down Saint John Street.

Poor House Bistro now sits at its new home on West St. John St., next to Henry’s Hi-Life in Little Italy.

You can find more information on Poor House’s hours of operation at their new location here.
