This One Piece of Gear Made Working From Cafes and Airports Actually Bearable

I realized that my “work from anywhere” setup wasn’t as glamorous as it appeared on Instagram as I was unpacking my luggage in the hotel room at 8:42 am. I was carrying my MacBook with charger, headphones, mouse, notebook as well as the incorrect HDMI cable. At 11am my neck was hurting, my laptop was lying on its desk and I’d spent more time figuring out the ports rather than actually doing the job I had opened my laptop for.

This is the issue when it comes to hybrid work. AI has made many tasks more efficient, for sure. Emails require less time. The research process is speedier. Slides seem to build themselves. However, the decision-making process has not disappeared. Each time I move places, I have this tiny setup tax that is waiting to be paid.

Where can I connect? Do I have to connect to this monitor?
My charger is on the opposite side of my desk?
Do you think my screen is too low?
Do I really need an adapter, a hub, or that mysterious cable at the bottom in my backpack?

These questions aren’t big by themselves, but when they are stacked up they can drain you before the actual work begins. With WSD placing workplace safety and healthier routines back into the mix, it has also prompted me to be more aware of the physical aspect of productivity, too.

Since, in reality, posture isn’t simply an “sit up straight” issue. When your laptop is positioned in a straight position on a desk, your head naturally sways to the side. This puts additional stress on the shoulders and neck over time, and after a couple of days, your body begins compensating. A tight neck, shallow breathing, fatigued eyes, slow thinking. It’s not that initially dramatic. It’s just that you’ve been sluggish at lunchtime.

This is the reason why I became strangely exuberant about a laptop gadget.

Its Mukiya USB-C laptop dock stand is among the items that seem easy until you actually try it. It raises the laptop’s screen up to the eye level, and then transforms your unorganized travel desk into a functional workspace with just one USB-C connection. Display, power, USB devices, SD cards, and other necessities all flow through one spot instead of transforming your workspace into a tangled mess of cables.

For me, it altered the entire routine of working in my house. I simply open the stand and put the MacBook onto it and plug in one cable and I’m set. No crawling under desks. No hunting for dongles. It’s not necessary to place the laptop on a bookcase that is definitely a part of the room of a hotel.

If you’ve been looking for the best USB-C hub for MacBook,  it is the product that is better than having an additional stand and hub. The Mukiya 9-in-1 dock stand combines the two together and is precisely what I need when I work at airports, cafes or coworking spaces. Or that small hotel desk with just one outlet, and questionable lighting.

I also like the fact that Mukiya does not treat “mobile work” like it is only about being light. The weight of the device is important however, so is the ability to work for three hours with your shoulders being a shambles. A higher-quality screen and a more efficient cable configuration are no longer luxury items. These are the essential devices for those who are working from multiple locations.

The Mukiya 3 in 1 MagSafe Charging Station is a good fit for the same concept: less cables, less tiny choices and less things to lose when you’re in the midst of a rush. Earbuds, watch, phone and laptop setup everything is calmer when it’s in a spot.

My honest take? My honest take? Mukiya 9-in-1 dock stand isn’t simply another gadget for your desk. It’s the kind of device that eliminates friction from your daily routine. When your day has enough notifications, tabs, deadlines and AI-generated drafts to read, minimizing small friction is an accomplishment.

Tips for readers Use the code WORKSAFE if you’d like to make your work-from-anywhere setup more comfortable for you neck, desk as well as your mind.
