    This One Piece of Gear Made Working From Cafes and Airports Actually Bearable

    I realized that my “work from anywhere” setup wasn’t as glamorous as it appeared on Instagram as I was unpacking my luggage in the hotel room at 8:42 am. I was carrying my MacBook with charger, headphones, mouse, notebook as well as the incorrect HDMI cable. At 11am my neck was hurting, my laptop was lying on its desk and I’d spent more time figuring out the ports rather than actually doing the job I had opened my laptop for.

    This is the issue when it comes to hybrid work. AI has made many tasks more efficient, for sure. Emails require less time. The research process is speedier. Slides seem to build themselves. However, the decision-making process has not disappeared. Each time I move places, I have this tiny setup tax that is waiting to be paid.

    Where can I connect? Do I have to connect to this monitor?
    My charger is on the opposite side of my desk?
    Do you think my screen is too low?
    Do I really need an adapter, a hub, or that mysterious cable at the bottom in my backpack?

    These questions aren’t big by themselves, but when they are stacked up they can drain you before the actual work begins. With WSD placing workplace safety and healthier routines back into the mix, it has also prompted me to be more aware of the physical aspect of productivity, too.

    Since, in reality, posture isn’t simply an “sit up straight” issue. When your laptop is positioned in a straight position on a desk, your head naturally sways to the side. This puts additional stress on the shoulders and neck over time, and after a couple of days, your body begins compensating. A tight neck, shallow breathing, fatigued eyes, slow thinking. It’s not that initially dramatic. It’s just that you’ve been sluggish at lunchtime.

    This is the reason why I became strangely exuberant about a laptop gadget.
