One Piece’s Tony Tony Chopper Teams Up with Doctors Without Borders

One thing about me is I LOVE One Piece. Tony Tony Chopper, the ships doctor is one of the best members of the crew. With a backstory fitting for any doctor, he’s now an “official supporter” of Doctors Without Borders. A Special Illustration by Eiichiro Oda is in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #17.

Tony Tony Chopper, from ONE PIECE, has been appointed as an 'Official Supporter' of the Doctors Without Borders organization.

There is also some speculation that they will be adding Trafalgar Law to the “official supporter” category as he is also a surgeon. His story, also heartbreaking. His fruit? The Ope Ope no Mi fruit. A power that is befitting of all doctors everywhere, the user can freely rearrange, take apart (without harm), and “surgically” remodel anything and anyone, including themself, making the user a truly magical surgeon.

The reason that this collaboration between Tony Tony Chopper is especially important is that the state of the world we’re living in is not great. Even Cyborg Frankie of the Straw Hat Pirates has been used in numerous ICE protests. Signs made with his famous saying “existing is not a crime.” It’s amazing that a manga/tv show can influence people like this. Good influences are always needed. Oda Eiichiro is no stranger to standing up for what you believe in. Luffy’s existence is proof of that.

Doctors Without Borders, or Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), is an international, independent medical humanitarian organization. They provide emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, and exclusion from healthcare in over 75 countries. Founded in 1971, it delivers impartial care based on need, funded primarily by private donors.
