If you’re waiting for a sequel to the latest The Naked Gun you might have to wait. The good news is that we’ve learned that a sequel is being discussed. Unfortunately however, the decision lives and dies with Paramount.
Produced by Seth MacFarlane and starring Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr, the 2025 reboot of The Naked Gun did really well at the box office. In fact it made more than $100 million worldwide. Basically proving that the audience was there should they want to make another one.
“I know everyone would love to, including Liam,”
“We have not heard anything yet. I think it’s all up to Paramount.”
MacFarlane to The Hollywood Reporter
Not only has MacFarlane spoken to THR but so have screenwriters Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. They mentioned they had begun making notes with ideas for a potential follow-up.
“Dan and I have notebooks already that we’re already starting to just jot down ideas on, Akiva is the same way, to a degree.”
Doug Mand to The Hollywood Reporter
While Neeson previously described the movie as potentially a “one-off,” producers say discussions about continuing the franchise have already taken place. Conversations about where the story could go next began even while the reboot was still being pitched. At the same time though, nothing has been officially greenlit. But not to worry, should they announce anything it’s been confirmed that there are plenty of fresh new jokes and gags for a second film.
In short: a sequel isn’t confirmed yet, but the creative team has clearly been thinking about it. Meaning another Naked Gun could happen if the studio gives the green light. And you know what helps when considering green lighting a sequel? Basically how much “Buzz” comes out about it. So by just writing this article and you reading it, it’s more incentive for Paramount to say “Yes.”
