e.l.f. Cosmetics x Liquid Death Commercial Goes Viral for Its Bizarre Marketing Mashup

Yesterday I was scrolling Facebook Reels as one does when they’re bored and looking for some entertainment and I found something so weird I had to write about it. The commercial was for e.l.f. cosmetics and Liquid Death. They’ve now got some Liquid Death flavors in what they’re calling Lip Embalm. So basically chapstick packaged in some cool new flavors. The commercial could have been short and sweet, but instead we got a full on episode of a dystopian nightmare.

If you’re not familiar with Liquid Death, they’re an aggressively branded canned water company. They’re known for irreverent and dark humor. They’ve now teamed up with e.l.f. Cosmetics for a second time to create “Lip Embalm.” Instead of soda or mountain water, these little lip balms are filled with flavored, hydrating balm inspired by flavors like Severed Lime, Killer Cola, Doctor Death, Rest in Peach, and Sweet Reaper. Each mimicking Liquid Death’s beverage lineup but with a beauty-product twist.

This commercial can only be described as a parody/horror comedy. First starting out with a couple of teen girls in heavy metal makeup talking about one of their upcoming dates. Of course you don’t want “dead” dry lips on a date, so dad comes in and tells the girls about this great “Lip Embalm.”

Que the cartoon birds, puppet and other ick provoking imagery. This commercial felt like a PSA about how your body decays more than it did a spot promoting lip balm. But you know what? It kept me watching until the end. Which I was grateful for because of the jaw dropping reveal at the end. Anyway enough talking, watch the commercial down below. You won’t regret it.
