It’s been 54 years since Apollo 17 took the first astronauts to the moon. Tomorrow, the Artemis II will go from the Vehicle Assembly Building to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. A massive step towards its final launch to do a 10-day orbit around the moon and back again.

    Artemis II, NASA

The multi-hour journey from the assembly building to launchpad 39B at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida is currently scheduled to start no earlier than 7am (EST) on January 17th. (This time is subject to change due to technical preparations or weather conditions.)

At 9am (EST), there is a media event for the crew of the mission.

“NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman and the Artemis II crew, including NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Jeremy Hansen, will answer questions about their preparations and the mission for media in-person at the countdown clock,” NASA writes.

NASA’s YouTube channel will be live-streaming a pre-rollout news conference and a live feed of the event.

In the coming weeks, NASA plans to finish the final preparations for the Artemis II launch. The launch window currently opens as early as February 6th. However, several more factors need to be accounted for before a firmer window is set.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about the Artemis II mission as the project develops. You can watch NASA’s recent broadcast about the mission here.
