Websites like IMDB are great because anyone can contribute to and help maintain them. Websites like IMDB are also terrible because anyone can “contribute” to and “help” maintain them. X user @RandomGuyOnIMDB is taking credit for deleting several voice actors’ credits from the online movie database.
Why? Because he is mad, the new “voice actor – dubbing” category on the website isn’t porting credits over properly.
Voice actor and writer Kamran Nikhad sounded the alarm to the community after discovering several of their credits were missing.
“Heads up, VO actors: Some prick with too much time on their hands is removing the IMDB credits of voice actors because reasons,” they wrote. “Double check your pages & log of what’s being snipped so you can re-update it whenever this clown realizes that most people use PDF resumes, not IMDB.”
That is when the now-deleted user RandomGuyOnIMDB decided to take credit for the chaos. Thankfully, his thought process was screenshot and reshared by Nikhad for everyone to wonder upon.
RandomGuy’s Reason
“The reason: The credits are listed under ‘cast’ when they should be under ‘voice actor – dubbing’. They will stop being removed when clowns stop putting them in the wrong category.”
That is a hyper-specific grievance, but the way to fix it would be to port the credits over manually. But RandomGuy didn’t do that; he just deleted the credits and left it to the voice actors to add them back. With some performers saying he deleted over half of their credits. He fully acknowledges that porting over manually occurred to him, but he deemed it too much effort.
“I don’t want a bunch of voice actors from other countries mixed into the cast of the anime I want to watch, but I’m also not going to go to the extra trouble of adding everyone’s credits under ‘voice actor – dubbing’,” RandomGuy explains.
The problem is, he was also messing with actors, adding their credits back. Actress Rebecca Wang called this out after her own credits were removed a second time.
“actually diabolical how @imdbpro deleted all but 8 of my credits overnight AGAIN after i spent hours trying to reinstate them yesterday,” She posted on X.
“It’s actually diabolical how you added the credits back to the wrong category AGAIN after they were removed for that reason,” RandomGuy replied. “If you are not the original voice of the character, add the credits under ‘voice acting – dubbing’ and they probably won’t be removed again.”
We don’t know for sure why RandomGuy deleted his X account. We’d be willing to wager his sudden fame was a bit too much.
