Sir Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic “The Odyssey” is the very first film shot for IMAX on the manufacturer’s newest model of camera. These new cameras have officially been named The IMAX Keighley in honor of David and Patricia Keighley.

David was IMAX’s first chief quality officer, who sadly passed away earlier this year. His widow, Patricia, is also one of IMAX’s top chief quality officers. The couple has been invaluable in perfecting and populating the large-format film.

The announcement was made via their son, Geoff Keighley.

“IMAX’s new film camera will be named The @IMAX Keighley Camera — honoring both of my parents, who were instrumental in its creation. The camera was first used to film Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, coming to theaters next summer,” he posted on X.

“There’s been a lot of well-deserved attention on my dad and his legacy this year, but my mom has been just as vital to IMAX since the very beginning — and she’s still hard at work there every day. As my dad always said, she was 50% of everything he ever accomplished. I know nothing would make him happier than seeing her contributions recognized as well,” Keighley adds.

Geoff is a video game journalist who created and hosts “The Game Awards.”

Our thoughts are with him and his mother at this bittersweet time.

Nolan’s “The Odyssey” hits theaters July 17th, 2026.
