Miss World Chile Contestant Nails Death Metal Performance

Imagine this, model and Miss World Chile contestant by day, death metal vocalist by night. No, that’s not the plot line to some tv show, it’s reality for Ignacia Fernández. Fernández is currently competing for the Miss World title, and stunned judges by performing an original song from her death metal band Decessus.

We can’t say we’ve seen too many death metal performances given by people in elaborate evening gowns. But we really hope that changes after this.

On November 2nd, during the semi-finals of the competition, Fernández, accompanied by Decessus’ guitarist Carlos Palma, played an original song. The unique performance nabbed her a spot in the top 20 moving her on to the finals!

“Metal has been a fundamental part of who I am as a person and in my life: a refuge, a source of strength and purpose,” she posted to Instagram alongside the video. “Being able to express it on stage at @chilevision and @misschilemundo was an opportunity I deeply value. It was a great experience to break down barriers on open television, inspire, be real with it and show that you don’t have to fear the prejudices of others.”

Decessus members also include Martín Fénix on drums, and Jaime Pepe on bass. Their newest song, “Dark Flames,” released in September.

The Miss World finals air on Sunday, November 9th, where there could possibly be more death metal. You can check out Fernández’s incredible performance below:
