The mysterious land of Natlan has finally unveiled its secrets, offering travelers an all-new adventure in Teyvat. As one of the most enigmatic nations on the continent, Natlan captivates players with its unique “human saurian coexistence ” culture, breathtaking volcanic landscapes, and rich, deep-rooted history.

Natlan Overview: The Geography and Culture of the Nation of Pyro

Natlan lies in the western part of Teyvat, bordering the deserts of Sumeru. It is a mysterious land surrounded by volcanoes and hot springs. Geographically, Natlan is located west of Sumeru and southwest of Fontaine. Travelers can reach its borders by sailing from Port Bayda in Sumeru.

This land is renowned for its striking terrain — towering volcanoes, scattered hot springs, roaring rivers of magma, and vast grasslands come together to form Natlan’s majestic natural landscape. According to the owner of the Aisa Bathhouse in Inazuma, the volcanic hot springs of Natlan are simply unforgettable. Meanwhile, the Lavawalker artifact set tells tales of legendary figures said to have walked unharmed through the lava flows of the Mare Jivari.

The Pyroculus, Natlan’s regional collectible, follows the same system as other elemental Oculi across Teyvat. These fiery tokens are essential for leveling up the Statues of The Seven in Natlan. There are over 100 Pyroculi scattered throughout the region — some floating high in the sky and requiring special traversal methods, others hidden deep within underground caves, and many protected by mechanisms or puzzles. Collecting Pyroculi not only increases a character’s stamina cap but also unlocks unique regional rewards and achievements, making it a vital part of any full exploration of Natlan. Of course, you can also collect related merchandise in real life, such as the Genshin Pyroculus Necklace. It’s a great way to add a personal touch to your outfit and connect with the rich culture of Natlan.

Natlan’s cultural foundation draws inspiration from the three great ancient civilizations of the Americas — the Maya, Aztec, and Inca — blended with elements from sub-Saharan African cultures. This fusion creates a rich and unique civilization within Teyvat. In-game, Natlan’s main city features temple complexes inspired by Aztec architecture, while the six major tribes are each associated with iconic landscapes from the Americas and Africa: Within the Canyons, Scions of the Canopy, People of the Springs, Lands of Plenty, Above the Peaks, and Within the Mist and Smoke. This multicultural integration makes Natlan one of the most exotic and visually distinctive nations in all of Teyvat.

    Citlali: Character Background and Design

Citlali is a 5-star Cryo catalyst character introduced in Genshin Impact’s Version 5.3. As the Grand Shaman of Natlan’s Mists of Smoke tribe, she holds the respected title “Obsidian Granny” and serves as both the Stargazer and the Seer of Mictlan. Although she is over two hundred years old, Citlali’s appearance remains youthful and vibrant—her long hair fades from pink to purple, styled with a middle part, braided twists framing her cheeks, and a ponytail at the back. A downward-pointing triangular Vismark glows on her forehead, marking her mysterious identity as a shaman priestess. These unique features are also reflected in Citlali Merchandise, letting fans immerse themselves in her charm.

Beneath her dignified exterior, the Grand Shaman has an unexpectedly otaku personality. Living away from the tribal village, her room is cluttered with bottles, snacks, and light novels—a true sanctuary for an anime fan. Citlali is deeply passionate about Inazuma’s light novel culture, especially the Phantom Chronicle series, even bending her own divination rules to keep up with the latest chapters. This adorable contrast—the stern “granny” who’s secretly a light novel fan—makes her one of Natlan’s most popular characters.

Within the Mists of Smoke tribe, Citlali’s reputation silences even crying children. Tribespeople respectfully call her “Obsidian Granny,” a title earned not only because of her powerful mystical abilities but also due to the countless challengers who have failed to defeat her over two centuries. What few know is that Citlali cares deeply about others’ opinions. She often regrets her embarrassing behavior when drunk and works hard to improve her image by adopting “youthful” ways of speaking. This complex and genuine characterization elevates her beyond a simple “powerful shaman” archetype, making her a fully fleshed-out character.

Citlali’s combat style perfectly reflects her character. As a Cryo catalyst user, she provides strong shields to protect allies while boosting team damage through her unique Night Soul mechanic. Her Elemental Skill, Froststar Nocturne, summons the obsidian star demon Iztpapal to deal AoE Cryo damage. Her Elemental Burst, Mandate of the Celestials, strikes enemies in front and restores Night Soul energy. Notably, her abilities synergize excellently with Pyro and Hydro elements—triggering Freeze or Melt reactions reduces enemy resistance to those elements, making her an ideal support for Pyro or Hydro DPS teams.

The story of Natlan is reaching its conclusion, but the Traveler’s journey goes on
