Towing the car – this is important to consider

If a car has broken down and can no longer drive on its own, you may need to have it towed to a repair shop, especially if there is a risk of a dangerous situation. If you are towing the car yourself, i.e., without a towing service near me through Future Towing, there are some important rules that you must follow and that you must consider before you start towing.

    Rules for towing a car

If you plan to tow your car yourself using another vehicle, there are a few key rules you should be aware of before you begin. The first thing is to take into account the weight of both vehicles. The car that has broken down must not weigh more than 2 times as much as the vehicle that is towing. If the weight of the vehicles is not below the maximum permitted for Winnipeg Towing Service, a tow truck must be called.

When towing, the broken-down car must have both brakes and steering that work optimally, as the car must have a driver who brakes and steers during the towing. Towing is not permitted on the motorway, and the maximum speed you are allowed to drive at is 30 km/h. You may only tow one vehicle at a time if you use an approved tow rope. The distance between the vehicles must not be more than four meters. If the distance is more than two meters, the tow rope must be marked.

How to attach the tow rope

Your car’s towbar is usually located in the trunk. This is a long metal object with a screw on one end and a loop on the other. Many cars have a towbar attachment hidden behind a cover in the bumper. To pry open the cover, you may need a narrow, sharp object, such as a knife. The towbar is then attached to the towbar attachment.

If the car you are towing has a towbar, it is recommended that you use this, as many cars have hooks that are only approved for towing cars on level ground and without any additional weight in the form of luggage or passengers.

Be careful when towing a car with an automatic transmission

If the car to be towed has an automatic transmission, you must be very careful to avoid extensive and expensive damage. We generally advise against towing cars with an automatic transmission. It is better to call Flatbed Towing Service, Future Towing, for safe transport of the car. This is because the automatic transmission on such cars receives its lubrication from the engine when it is running. This means that when you tow a car with the engine off, the gears rotate with high force without being lubricated. This can result in the gearbox being destroyed, resulting in high repair costs.

If necessary or if you still have to tow a car with an automatic transmission, you can do this if you are careful. The car can be towed for shorter distances of 1-2 kilometers and at a speed of about 25 km/h. Even if this is followed, there is a risk of damage to the car.

Future Towing helps you with the towing

It is important that the rules for towing are followed. In situations where the vehicle does not fall within the provisions above, we at Future Towing will help with towing to the workshop. We transport your vehicle by pulling it or lifting it onto one of our specially adapted service vehicles. We carry out towing of passenger cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other types of vehicles. Contact us by phone at +12045882055, and we will be there quickly to help you regardless of the time of day.
