Rising star Yanran Chen is set to make waves in Beijing’s art scene. Her much-anticipated first solo exhibition in China, titled Neon Dreamland, will open at ART FOCUS—a brand-new, immersive art space by Tang Contemporary Art in the famous 798 Art District. Running from May 23 to July 6, 2025, the exhibition promises to be a highlight of the 2025 Beijing Art Season.

A Dreamlike Debut: What to Expect at Neon Dreamland

Yanran Chen’s work is known for its vibrant colors, surreal imagery, and its unique blend of technology and fantasy. The Neon Dreamland exhibition will showcase these qualities in two main sections, offering visitors a fresh look at contemporary art in China.

    Section 1: Personal Works

The first part of the exhibition focuses on Yanran Chen’s personal creations. This includes a series of dynamic illustrations and eye-catching sculptures such as The Mechanical Lifeform and Dinner. These pieces reflect her fascination with the intersection of humanity and machines, using bright colors and surreal forms to explore what it means to be alive in a technology-driven world.

Her personal works stand out for their:

    • Vivid, tech-inspired visuals: Expect to see bold, electric colors and futuristic themes.
    • Surreal, dreamlike quality: Many of her pieces seem to float between reality and imagination, drawing viewers into a world that feels both familiar and strange.
    • Cultural influences: Her art is shaped by influences from manga and experimental film, creating a style that is hard to categorize.

    Section 2: Collaboration with WaarWorld

The second section presents a special collaboration with WaarWorld, inspired by the acclaimed sci-fi novel The Supernova Era by Liu Cixin. Here, visitors will find six collectible character sculptures that blend post-human futurism with playful, accessible designs. These works push the boundaries of traditional sculpture, inviting viewers to imagine the future of humanity and technology.

This collaboration is especially notable for:

    • Blending serious sci-fi themes with whimsical aesthetics.
    • Creating pieces that appeal to art lovers, collectors, and fans of speculative fiction alike.
    • Demonstrating the power of collaboration in contemporary art.

About ART FOCUS: Beijing’s Newest Immersive Art Space

ART FOCUS is an exciting new project by Tang Contemporary Art, one of Asia’s leading galleries. Located in the heart of Beijing’s 798 Art District, ART FOCUS aims to be more than just a gallery; it’s an experimental hub where art, technology, and education come together.

Visitors to ART FOCUS can expect:

    • Immersive experiences: The space is designed for interactive exhibitions, workshops, and events.
    • Cutting-edge exhibitions: ART FOCUS will host shows that challenge traditional boundaries and invite new audiences to engage with art.
    • Educational programs: The venue will offer talks, tours, and activities for visitors of all ages.

By hosting Yanran Chen’s Neon Dreamland, ART FOCUS is making a bold statement about its mission to support innovation and creativity in the Chinese art world.

Curated by Yuan Hong: A Unique Perspective

The exhibition is curated by Yuan Hong, a well-known actor and founder of Art Naoke. Yuan Hong brings a fresh, interdisciplinary approach to the show, helping to bridge the gap between contemporary art and popular culture. His involvement adds another layer of excitement and credibility to the event.

Part of Beijing Art Season: A Citywide Celebration

Neon Dreamland is not just a solo show—it’s part of the larger Beijing Art Season, a major event that brings together key art institutions from across the city. This means that visitors to the exhibition will also have the chance to experience a wide range of other art events, making Beijing the place to be for art lovers this summer.

Who Is Yanran Chen? Meet the Artist Behind the Dreamland

Born in Beijing in 2005, Yanran Chen is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about young artists in China. Her journey is both inspiring and unique:

    • Early Influences: Chen’s work is shaped by Japanese manga and French experimental cinema. This blend gives her art a distinctive look—playful yet thought-provoking, colorful yet deep.
    • International Exposure: Since her debut solo show in Tokyo in 2023, she has exhibited in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Budapest, and Las Vegas.
    • Major Collaborations: Chen has worked with brands like GUCCI, Balenciaga, and ARTnews. She is also a brand ambassador for LEUCHTTURM1917 and a co-branded artist with ROBBi.
    • ACCRO STUDIO: In 2023, she founded ACCRO STUDIO, which means “endless” in French. The studio reflects her relentless drive to experiment and explore new artistic frontiers.
    • Personal Philosophy: Chen’s art is deeply personal, shaped by introspection and the rapid changes in global culture. She uses her work to question identity, technology, and the future.
