Macon Blair‘s long-awaited “The Toxic Avenger” reboot is really starting to pick up. In the past few weeks, we’ve finally gotten images of Peter Dinklage as our beloved Toxie. The monster hero even helped turn the Chicago River green for St. Patrick’s Day. Now, we have an all-new teaser that shows Dinklage in action and gives us a bit of Troma-esque gore.

The original film hit theaters in 1984 and was co-directed by Troma Entertainment co-founders Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman. It tells the story of Melvin, a bullied janitor at the Tromaville health spa who falls into a vat of toxic waste, after a prank. Instead of killing him, the waste transforms him into the mutated superhero, The Toxic Avenger. Toxie quickly became a mascot for Troma Studios, creating a franchise of films, cartoons, toys, and comics.
“The Toxic Avenger” Teaser
The new one-minute teaser shows the Toxic Avenger freeing hostages from the, intentionally disgusting*, Miss Meat restaurant. In true campy carnage fashion, Toxie saves the day by ripping someone’s face off with his trusty mop. Even though the reboot is being done by Cineverse, it drips with Troma inspiration.
The reboot will see Dinklage as the downtrodden janitor Winston Gooze. He stars alongside Kevin Bacon (“Tremors”), Elijah Wood (“Yellowjackets”), Jacob Tremblay (“Room”), Julia Davis (“Person of Interest”), and Taylour Paige (“Zola”).
“The Toxic Avenger,” premiered at Fantastic Fest in 2023 and will hit theaters unrated on August 29th. You can check out the new teaser below:
* Kaufman is a long-time vegetarian, so it’s a running theme in Troma films to see meat presented as disgusting. Doubly so when it’s being served in a beacon to capitalism like a chain fast food restaurant. Dinklage is also a former vegan, and continual animal rights activist.
