Do you remember when the twisted fairy tale horror subgenre had several Cinderella-based movies in the works? Well, it looks like 2025 will be the year of Popeye The Sailor Man with the first trailer for “Shiver Me Timbers.”

This is not to be confused with the upcoming “Popeye the Slayer Man” or “Popeye’s Revenge” which are also due out this year.

Alpake Entertainment has blessed us with the bloody first trailer for the new horror comedy. “Shiver Me Timbers,” is produced, written, and directed by Paul Stephen Mann based on the beloved, now public domain, character created by E.C. Segar.

The film is set in the summer of 1986 in North California. We follow Olive Oyl (Amy Mackie), her brother Castor (Brendan Nelson), and their friends on a camp trip to see Halley’s Comet. Of course, this serene night is ruined by a meteor from the comet hitting Popeye. If assault by an asteroid wasn’t enough, the space rock turns him into an unstoppable killing machine.

The first trailer for “Shiver Me Timbers,” is a love letter to the slasher films of the 1980s. Most of its 1 minute 43-second run time is just a montage of over-the-top violence. All while the narrator promises audiences sex, drugs, and rock & roll.

“Shiver Me Timbers” is slated to release in April 2025. We’ll keep you posted on updates about this and other Popeye-themed horror movies as they become available. You can check out the first trailer below:
