Rooster Teeth Revived with Original Creator Burnie Burns

On March 6th, 2024 entertainment company Rooster Teeth announced it would shut its doors after 21 years of creating content. The closure was revealed after Warner Bros. Discovery made multiple attempts to sell the “unprofitable” division. Thankfully, it has been bought out by the independent company Box Canyon Productions, owned by Rooster Teeth founder Burnie Burns!

Now that it is under new/old management, Rooster Teeth plans to refocus on the “innovation, community engagement, and the spirit of creativity that first defined its success.” Founded in 2003, the company was considered an early innovator in digital media. Creating “Red vs. Blue,” the longest-running web series in history, and “RWBY” solidified their legacy as pioneers of the medium.

Burns wants to reinvigorate the collaborative/community-driven energy that fueled its early days and made fans fall in love with the brand. “I am excited at the challenge of bringing Rooster Teeth back to its roots,” says Burns. “The heart of this brand has always been its fans, and I look forward to writing a new chapter together.”

Reigniting this may be easier said than done. But considering Rooster Teeth’s legacy of setting the standard for fan-first content, we think they can pull it off. Box Canyon has already announced a new development slate of productions for 2025. The titles include “renewed production of some of the platform’s classic shows, a new original audio adventure Again, and an untitled reimagining of Burns’ first film The Schedule.”

We’ll keep you posted on updates about Rooster Teeth’s acquisition as the situation develops.
