Hatha Yoga is one of the oldest forms of yoga, which traces its roots to the Vedas. Today, the ancient style has evolved into many other styles. Each one of the styles today offer a unique range of benefits to the practitioners.

Hatha Yoga is one of the most popular yoga forms or styles, whatever you choose to call it. Hatha Yoga is more of a general term that covers other yoga forms. You can learn about Hatha Yoga in more detail when you join the best yoga teacher training in Rishikesh.

If you go through the scriptures and spiritual texts, you will find out that ‘Ha’ translates into ‘sun’ and ‘Tha’ into ‘moon.  And Hatha Yoga mainly signifies the union of these two forces. It is a more gentle variety of yoga, which is suitable for beginners. It helps in stabilizing the body and in grounding it, as well.

What Are The Different Forms Of Hatha Yoga?

Each of Hatha Yoga’s distinct forms and styles have evolved into a separate genre of their own.

When you enrol for the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh, you will get knowledge about all of them.

The more popular yoga forms are:

    • Yin Yoga – This is another form of yoga, which is considered therapeutic. It is a slow-paced yogic style, in which you are required to hold the poses for a certain length of time. Many also call it a more meditative style. As you hold the postures for 3-5 minutes, the stress and tension reaches the inner tissues. It promotes flexibility and relaxation, in a few sessions.
    • Ashtanga Yoga – It was originally founded by K. Pattabhi Jois in the Southern part of the country. It lays a lot of stress on vigorous and continuous practice. The sessions follow a specific sequence. Your breath guides the movements in this form. Your gaze is also very important in this form of yoga. A lot of heat is generated when one practices Ashtanga Yoga. The ultimate gains involve complete detoxification, inside out.
    • Vinyasa Yoga – Also called ‘Flow Yoga’, the movements are interwoven into one another. You can also associate it with dance movement therapy. The form includes various asanas, which need not be repetitive. You can change the sequences. The form has a creative approach to it. It is equivalent to aerobic exercises, which many of you may be fond of.

These are the three main yoga forms that you will come across. As you go about your daily classes in the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh, you will discover slowly about the hidden and the outward aspects of yoga.

Now, coming to the comparison of Hatha Yoga with other yoga forms.

How Is Hatha Yoga Different From Others?

Hatha Yoga is the form that covers most others. The opposite is not true. There are still many other forms of yoga, which are totally distinct from Hatha Yoga.

    • Kundalini Yoga – This is a more spiritual form of yoga, which is more focussed on spirituality. The practice utilizes a mix of poses, breathing techniques, meditation, and mantra chanting to channelize the Kundalini energy. It can lead you to a higher level of consciousness.
    • JivaMukti Yoga – It is the brain-child of David Life and Sharon Gannon. It is described as the pathway to enlightenment, by showing compassion for all. It is a physical practice, which combines dynamic yoga sessions mixed with shastra, ahimsā, nāda, bhakti, and dhyana.

You will also find music playing in the JivaMukti Yoga class, as well. It is a hybrid yoga form, to be precise. You can practice this, if you feel challenged with traditional yoga.

Factors That Segregate Hatha Yoga From Others

    • The first factor is the intensity and speed of the practice. Hatha Yoga is a more slow-paced yoga style, as compared to the others. This allows the practitioners to develop a strong foundation. Your stability, strength, and balance gets enhanced, as a result of regular Hatha Yoga practice.
    • Secondly, it is a more flexible form. Hatha Yoga is extremely adaptable in nature, and so you can apply more creativity to the practice. The teachers will tailor the classes according to the abilities of the students. On the other hand, forms such as Ashtanga Yoga are more stringent.
    • More stress on alignment is one of the reasons that make Hatha Yoga so popular. You will not be competing with other practitioners. Correct positioning is most important, when you are into Hatha Yoga. Attention to detail gets a lot of importance in Hatha Yoga.
    • Spiritual Inclusions is the other reason that makes Hatha Yoga so popular. It impacts the mind, soul, and the body as well. Other forms like Kundalini and Jiva Mukti lay more emphasis on spirituality, whereas Vinyasa Yoga lay more stress on physical benefits. However, Hatha Yoga is the only one which lays equal stress on both spirituality and physical aspects.

These are the factors that make Hatha Yoga so lovable. You will find people from all over the world practicing Hatha Yoga. It is also an important part of the best yoga teacher training in Rishikesh.

Hatha Yoga lessons are delivered along with the verses explained from Hatha Yoga Pradipika. It is one of the text books which assumes a lot of importance in the field of Hatha Yoga. The best school of yoga will take you through this journey in a detailed manner. You understand the true reason for your association with yoga, through these verses.

    Final Words

The best yoga teacher training in Rishikesh paves the way for your growth. You will learn about the above differences and various associations between different forms of yoga, in the course. Rishikesh is the place where all forms congregate, but with a traditional twist of their own. So, you will likely learn authentic and traditional yoga.

Today, most good schools will teach you Hatha Yoga, keeping the modern needs of society in mind. That is why you must choose a place with a strong foundation.
