Challenges Faced by New Entrants in the Baby Apparel Market

Baby apparel is the cutest among all other garment products. The baby clothing caters to the needs of infants, babies, and very young children, which is why it is a very prominent clothing type thriving in the industry. Every day, new companies, products, styles, and designs are launched to bring innovation into baby garments.

However, this market also faces challenges like any other clothing market. Every new entrant goes through inevitable difficulties and challenges that affect their overall grooming in the industry. You will see some challenges faced by the new entrants in the baby clothing industry.

    1. Competition

There is a major competition in the market between established and new brands. The customer base stays focused on the previously existing brands that have been functioning for a longer period of time. The audience understands that giving a chance to a new business can be risky in terms of pricing, quality, and services.

They don’t prefer relying on someone who is new to the industry unless the new brand comes up with different styles under reasonable costs. Even then, the quality, durability, and many more product properties are questioned by the customers.

    2. Supply Chain

Hiring reliable manufacturing companies for competitive prices and quality fabrics can be a hurdle. It is a wise choice to choose baby clothing manufacturers for startups that can create clothes at reasonable rates or provide a minimum order of fine quality to the brand owner.

This way, you will get the right products at the right cost and will be able to sell them at customer-preferred prices. There is a very good chance that customers buy products from you because of their quality and low cost. But be certain that your products are of high quality.

    3. Recognition and Popularity

When a new brand arrives, it faces a lack of popularity and recognition. It takes time for a new brand to make its presence visible in the baby clothing market. It is like the previous point “competition,” but different in obvious ways that parents don’t usually trust a new company over an established one because they want quality clothing for their babies. In order to gain popularity and global recognition, marketing and branding at a higher level are mandatory.

In order to do so, you can hire influencers and actors who can create a positive image of your brand. Or, you can do social media marketing along with paid campaigns.

    4. Costing Pressure

A new entrant is always pressured in terms of cheaper clothes because of the raised competition. Firstly, the brand is new, and secondly, the higher prices will push the potential customers further away. This very thought causes a conflict between reasonable quality and cheaper rates.

    5. Saturated Market

The market is saturated considering the already existing giants and their unique products. Therefore, it is challenging for new brands to portray themselves as unique. Their unique selling propositions can make a huge difference once they are accepted widely by their target market.

However, it is hard to find a niche or USP that makes the beginners stand out among their strong and established competitors.

    6. Quality Anticipations

Parents want only good-quality products for their beloved babies. They buy from brands with global recognition and quality assurance sureties. Being new in the industry raises questions about the quality and cost.

Parents are confused between the conflict of high cost and low quality. If they get garments with lower prices but higher quality, they prefer shifting towards the new brands.

    7. Regulations Strictness

Coming to the cost of products again, maintaining the regulations in terms of using unharming materials can be costly. For example, flame retardancy and chemical-free materials are expensive, and selling products at higher rates due to complying with regulations becomes challenging for new brands.

Because parents don’t know the back-end effort of getting such clothes, they find products expensive for no reason. Hence, they shift towards brands they already trust.

    8. Rapid Changes in Trends

It is always hard to keep up with the ever-evolving trends for the new brands. The established brand is always prepared since they are dominating the industry with new products and styles.

New brands become cornered when they have to pay more money to get trending apparel in the baby clothing industry. They are unable to restock in time or waste the existing stock because of freshly invested money. Hence, the rapid changes in trends become a headache for them.

    9. Online and Social Media Presence

It takes several months for new brands to become widely visible on the internet and social media. On the other hand, the established clothing lines are already ranking and immensely visible on social media. In other words, they have already made their customer base by using numerous tactics and digital marketing strategies.

Even if new brands have their websites, their online ranking will take some time after the launch. Also, the ranking requires remarkable efforts.

    10. Sustainability Factors

Customers prefer sustainable and eco-friendly apparel for their babies. Securing such materials and getting sustainable products is a challenge due to high prices and efforts. Managing costs and providing the best-quality products takes time and money investment.

    Solutions to Overcome Challenges

    • Work on a unique niche, like customized baby garments.
    • Use advanced digital marketing strategies by incorporating social media, influencers, celebrities and SEO services to develop brand awareness.
    • Hire trusted manufacturing companies to ensure quality and compliance.
    • Initiate a small-scale business with smaller product quantities.
    • Gradually grow your business based on customer feedback.

    Conclusion

Challenges are the fate of new brands. It is very rare for beginners to grow without facing any difficulties. Established brands are dominating the industry already, which is why new brands are rarely a threat to their overgrown popularity.

Once you enter the baby clothing industry, you face various hurdles like cost pressure, quality management, trust issues of parents, and many more. I have also given solutions to the challenges in this blog. Use this knowledge to grow your business faster than you have imagined.
