Across numerous iterations, most recently a successful run on Netflix, the “Voltron” franchise has continued to etch itself deeper into pop culture across several generations. We’re happy to report the project is coming together even stronger, in a way that is going to make this upcoming live-action feature film a reality.
Amazon is handling the film through its MGM leg. Rawson Marshall Thurber (“Red Notice,” “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story“) will direct.
Henry Cavill will star. Just like the Voltron team filling out its roster of pilots, we now know Rita Ora, Oscar nominee Sterling K. Brown, and John Kim will be part of the cast.
Ora has branched out from music into acting and has most recently been heard in the animated “Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight” series in addition to being the Queen of Hearts in the Disney+ film “Descendants: The Rise of Red.” John Kim meanwhile has had a strong list of credits to his name including being in “The Librarians” series in addition to “9-1-1″ and the upcoming “Cruel Intentions” series.
“In this film, we’re going to be introducing an entirely new generation of pilots,” Thurber said. His script, written with Ellen Shanman, promises to hold to “those iconic elements that you love, that I love.”
Filming is set to begin next month in Australia. We will continue to provide updates when available while hoping the legendary “Voltron” theme song works its way into movie.
