Iconic rock band Fleetwood Mac is getting its first fully authorized documentary. Frank Marshall will direct with Mark Monroe writing, the duo previously collaborated on “The Beach Boys” documentary.
Apple is backing, and will distribute the currently untitled movie.
In this upcoming documentary, the band will “share their extraordinary story in their own words.” The film will feature never-before-seen footage, exclusive new interviews, and archival interviews of the late Christine McVie (who passed away in 2022).
Fleetwood Mac’s most popular lineup included McVie, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Stevie Nicks, and Lindsey Buckingham. Hit songs like “Rhiannon” and “Landslide” shot them to the top of the charts. Infighting and soured romances soon began to bleed over into their music. Some argue this strained relationship is what made their hit album “Rumours” so good, but it didn’t make for a sustainable artistic partnership.
“I am fascinated by how this incredible story of enormous musical achievement came about,” Marshall said of the project. “Fleetwood Mac somehow managed to merge their often chaotic and almost operatic personal lives into their own tale in real time, which then became legend. This will be a film about the music and the people who created it.”
Marshall and Aly Parker will produce under The Kennedy/Marshall Company, along with fellow producers Nicholas Ferrall of White Horse Pictures and Jeanne Elfant Festa. Executive producers include Monroe, Cassidy Hartmann for White Horse, and Tony Rosenthal of Kennedy/Marshall.
We’ll keep you posted on updates about the Fleetwood Mac documentary as they become available.
