Universal Orlando Resort is opening a brand new park, Epic Universe in May of 2025. It will be Universal Orlando Resort’s third theme park and fourth park overall. This particular destination will have themed areas based on “How to Train Your Dragon,” “Harry Potter,” Nintendo, and the studio’s classic lineup of movie monsters.
Monster Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment
Universal has just revealed some of the monsters in the Monster Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment ride. That will be located in the Dark Universe section of the park. These figures are already billed as “some of the most visceral, powerful, and fast-moving animated figures ever created” for a theme park attraction.
The Frankenstein Experiment will have guests traverse the catacombs of Frankenstein Manor. Inside Dr. Henry Frankenstein’s great-great-granddaughter, Dr. Victoria Frankenstein, upholds her family’s legacy, using the Manor to conduct twisted experiments. Dr. Victoria wants to show off her scientific prowess to guests, which inevitably leads to the monsters escaping.
Out of the 14 figures that will be used on the ride, Universal is giving us a peak at 4; Dracula, the Wolf Man, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Frankenstein’s Monster. Her ancestor’s first creation now stands nine feet tall and weighs over 800 pounds. That’s the body parts of A LOT of convicts.
During the pre-show portion of the attraction, guests are invited to tour Dr. Victoria’s lab, where they will also be met with the giant Frankenstein’s Monster.
Dracula is considered the most dangerous of the doctor’s monsters since he is leading the pack terrorizing the manor. So of course he will be placed at several different locations throughout the ride. Riders will get up close and personal with the Wolf Man as well, coming “within inches” of his notorious fangs and claws. The Creature from the Black Lagoon will also emerge from his watery lair to help terrorize visitors.
Dark Universe Area
The Frankenstein Experiment isn’t the only attraction in the Dark Universe section of the Epic Universe park. Visitors are invited to tour the fictional town of Darkmoor where they can meet several monsters for photo opportunities. They can even get a monster makeover inside the Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience. Once you’ve got your glam on there are several eateries where you can show off your new look.
The Burning Blade Tavern is a restaurant that features a giant windmill that scorches with real flames. Referencing the classic ending to the 1931 film “Frankenstein.” If you’re in the mood for something lighter there is De Lacey’s Cottage is a snack shop, named after a character in Mary Shelley‘s ground-breaking novel, “Frankenstein.”
Epic Universe opens on May 22nd, 2025. You can get more information about tickets on the park’s website. Check out the preview video below:
